7Seconds - Walk Together, Rock Together
I just waited for the right time to post this band here on Soundboard, and seems like the day has come because I’m seeing them very soon!
7Seconds is one of the longest standing bands in the hardcore scene. They have been active since their formation in 1980, so it’s been three decades of music and gigs before I’ve had the pleasure to find their music. And here I am, still not believing I am actually going to sing this song with them. I mean, not with them, obviously, just singing in the same room as them. Aaah yes! I just hope they play all the old songs because I find their old stuff better, especially their first albums.
What I like about this band, is the positive message they transmit with their songs, inviting people to stay united. That’s what this song is about.
Have a nice Thursday!

Minor Threat — Look Back And Laugh
So today I’m posting one of my favourite bands; it’s Minor Threat, an american hardcore punk band from Washington DC formed in 1980. Although their life as a band was brief yet it had a strong influence in the posterior hardcore scene. It’s also known for being the start point for the Straight Edge movement. I don’t know for how long I’ve been listening to them, but I’ve recently been listening to a lot of the old school hardcore, and Minor Threat’s been playing a lot. I love all their songs, they are an energic discharge of what was inside of their head. Look Back And Laugh is one of my favourites, I couldn’t tell you exactly why, maybe because I understand the lyrics as something I can relate to… Oh, growing up!

Sufjan Stevens - Casimir Pulaski Day
After we’d visited Chicago for the first time (and fell in love with it) our Friday man introduced me to Sufjan Stevens and his album, Illinoise, a concept album where the lyrics tell various stories surrounding the places, people, events and history of the state of Illinois. I feel like I don’t listen to this album, but rather, experience it. The lyrics to each song (all twenty-one of them) feel like a slice of history and overall the album is just rich; I can (and often do) indulge in Illinoise for hours on repeat, trying to pick up lines and details that I missed before. Not only do the lyrics completely transport me, the musicianship is breath-taking; each track has its own delicate melody and hooks that spin about my head for days. I would love to find out all about the stories behind the songs.
All the songs have grown on me more and more as I’ve listened to the album over and over and this one, Casimir Pulaski Day, has remained one of my favourites from the beginning. The words.
If you haven’t listened to this masterpiece album yet, then I envy that you’re about to experience it too.

The Beatles - Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)
It’s an honour to post the first song for Beatles Week. How can I choose my favourite song? One thing that has always left me in awe about The Beatles is the sheer amount of songs they wrote that each one has its own hook, melody, riffs and story. I can get lost in each and every one. I remember how beautiful I thought the Love album was when I first heard it, as like any British child of the 20th century, I grew up with The Beatles in some way.
Rosie’s Beatle trivia? My favourite Beatle is George and A Hard Day’s Night is the funniest film I have ever seen. If it wasn’t Norwegian Wood it would have been Fiona Apple’s other-worldly version of Across The Universe, one of my favourite songs of all time.
It was hard but Norwegian Wood is one of my favourites of theirs; it’s simply beautiful, the riff is timeless and the sitar is wonderful, in fact, this was the first example of a rock band using a sitar in one of their songs. There’s not much I can say about this song or the band that hasn’t been said before, but I’ll say that they were the greatest pioneers of music of the last century, maybe ever. The best band of all time? To me, no one will ever compare.
“I think people who truly can live a life in music are telling the world, ‘You can have my love, you can have my smiles. Forget the bad parts, you don’t need them. Just take the music, the goodness, because it’s the very best, and it’s the part I give most willingly’” - George Harrison

If Holden Caulfield was alive today, “The Catcher in the Rye” would’ve taken the form of a long and angsty Tumblr page. I’d write a longer commentary on this idea, but I just spent way too long photoshopping that book cover.
